Zusammenfassung: | The current position of groundwater pollution control in international law is briefly examined. The effective control, collection and dissemination of information by countries is needed together with classification of aquifers and groundwater quality standards. Land use regulations are important for full protection of groundwater resources, hazardous waste disposal being the greatest concern. Parallel legislation by the countries involved is probably the fastest method of implementing these regulations. The effectiveness of some existing institutions for groundwater protection is questioned. |
