Zusammenfassung:	High densities of coliform bacteria in paper mill effluents (up to ten million cells per ml) may confuse the interpretation of the sanitary analysis of the recipient. The authors studied the coliform densities in effluents of some Finnish paper and pulp mills as well as the density alterations of coliform bacteria in the treatment plants. The Academy of Finland supported the study that was carried out during 1984-1985.
