Zusammenfassung:A bromine-based biocide, 1-bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (BCDMH) , has recently been proposed as an alternative to chlorine for control of fouling in industrial cooling systems. Experiments have been carried out to compare the relative toxicities of chlorine and BCDMH to juvenile and yearling fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) and young-of-the-year bluegills (Lepomis macrochirus) in a freshwater cooling system. The overall toxicities were similar. BCDMH was more toxic than chlorine to bluegills, but less toxic to juvenile minnows.
