Zusammenfassung: | As with other masonry units, compressive strength is a basic measure of quality for compressed earth blocks. However, as compressed earth blocks are produced in a great variety of sizes the influence of block geometry on measured strength, primarily through platen restraint effects, must be taken into account. The paper outlines current methodologies used to determine compressive strength of compressed earth blocks, including direct testing, the RILEM test and indirect flexural strength testing. The influence of block geometry (aspect ratio), test procedure and basic material parameters (dry density, cement content, moisture content) are also discussed. Proposals for the future development of compressive strength testing of compressed earth blocks are outlined. |
