Zusammenfassung:	The behaviour of a model column on a deformable base acted upon by compressive and lateral loads beyond the elastic limit is investigated using the methods of the technical theory of stability. The loading trajectory which leads to the greatest deflection is constructed for specified constraints on the absolute magnitude of the lateral load and a monotonic increase in the compressive load, and the possibility of the occurrence of a limiting state is investigated.
