Granting three wishes through performance-centered design

The characteristics and advantages of performance-centered design are discussed. Since performance-centered design integrates activities that are now occurring independently and sequentially, such as training and documentation, it is important to understand that those who understand the technology and data are not likely to understand the work, human cognition, knowledge representation, and learning. Workers in other organizational units need to be involved early and have direct influence over the interface. The benefits of performance centered-systems are enormous and link to far more than efficiency and effectiveness. The real power is being able to institutionalize best proactive and integrate strategy into software. A comparison of large-scale and consumer software development is presented in tabular form.
