Zusammenfassung:The damage zone, formed during sustained loading by stress accelerated grain boundary oxygen embrittlement, is a localized region ahead of the crack tip. Before the crack growth reaches a steady rate, the existence of the crack growth transient period shows that cracking is likely to occur within the damage zone. This is indeed compatible with the dynamic embrittlement model.
