Zusammenfassung:The mechanical properties of lithium tetraborate (LTB) oriented plates were studied by means of nanoindentation. The pop-in effect was observed for the LTB (1 0 0) face, at loads up to 0.05 mN a purely elastic contact was found. A cleavage parallel to the (1 0 0) face was predicted considering the LTB crystal structure and was determined experimentally for the LTB single crystal. A dislocation nucleation or a phase transformation can be the origin of the pop-in effect observed at the nanoindentation of the lithium tetraborate (1 0 0) face.
