Does Obesity Affect Diffusing Capacity?
The effects of obesity on diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) and associated measurements of alveolar volume (VA) and rate constant for carbon monoxide uptake (KCO) have not been as extensively examined. Here, Hegewald and DeCato discuss the study by Holley et al which have put...

Zusammenfassung: | The effects of obesity on diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) and associated measurements of alveolar volume (VA) and rate constant for carbon monoxide uptake (KCO) have not been as extensively examined. Here, Hegewald and DeCato discuss the study by Holley et al which have put forth a valuable contribution to the understanding of the effects of obesity on gas exchange. DLCO testing is complex as a result of variables that are extrinsic and intrinsic to the individual performing the test. The study indicates that DLCO is not significantly affected by mild/moderate obesity. |
