Zusammenfassung:Because education and professional development are really only different stages in the growth of a good materials engineer, a symposium designed to cover both subjects seemed appropriate at MS&T'05, which was co-sponsored by five materials societies (TMS, ASM, AIST, AWS, and ACerS). The six sessions of the symposium were organized into essentially three topics: (1) the industrial perspective of what makes a good materials engineer, (2) a historical and philosophical discussion of materials education, and (3) designing curriculum and education methods.
