Zusammenfassung: | The new crosslinked polyethylenes are typically fabricated by radiation crosslinking a block or bar (ranging from 5 to 11 Mrads), heating to reduce the residual free radicals (that, otherwise, could oxidize), machining the component, packaging and sterilizing. Either traditional gamma or electron beam radiation appear to work equally well. The goal of each of the manufacturers is to reduce the wear sufficiently to prevent osteolysis, while preserving sufficient strength s that the poly component does not fracture. |
