Zusammenfassung:The effects of magnetic field applied by Nd–Fe–B permanent magnet on wear behaviors of medium carbon steel were investigated using an Amser tester. When magnetic flux intensity of 45 mT was applied vertically to sliding wear interface, the wear rates of ring and block samples were decreased by 50% and 60%, respectively. When magnetic flux intensity was increased from 45 to 193 mT, the wear rates of ring and block samples were decreased slowly to the maximum of 70% in average and the frictional coefficient was decreased about 40% simultaneously. The results were interpreted mainly by the presence of finely oxidized wear particles, which were attached to the wear surface owing to the magnetic forces and decreased the wear rates.
