Zusammenfassung:Natriuretic peptides must be interpreted in their clinical context, especially in intensive care medicine. This overview presents the diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic significance of B‑type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N‑terminal pro B‑type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with cardiac dysfunction, kidney failure, sepsis, pulmonary embolism, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD), and weaning from a respirator.
