Zusammenfassung: | The success of the application of the basic sciences in meeting the needs of World War II led to a new surge of research in the solid state science of metals. The publications from this research were widely scattered throughout the physical, chemical, and metallurgical literature. John Herbert Hollomon, as the leader of an interdisciplinary group of scientists and engineers, recognized the need for a unifying journal in which the fruits of such research could be gathered more effectively. Starting in April 1947, this budding concept was the subject of discussions and correspondence between Herb Hollomon and leading scientists in the field worldwide. In January 1952, an interim board of directors of the "International Journal for the Science of Metals" was established. |
