The promising future for FDRs and CVRs (flight data recorders /cockpit voice recorders)

New regulations and new functions that give onboard flight data recorders (FDRs) and cockpit voice recorders (CVRs) an expanded role in air safety are discussed. FDRs and CVRs being marketed by a variety of aerospace corporations are described. Further R&D in these systems is examined. (AIAA)
