Structure and Phase Composition of the Surface Layer of Wire from Corrosion-Resistant Steels After Quenching in Bell Furnaces

Earlier studies of the structure and phase composition of wire from corrosion-resistant steels AISI 304, AISI 316, 12Kh18N10T, 08Kh20N9G7T and alloy Kh20N80 have shown that the mechanical corrosion damage of the surface of finished wire is connected with the formation of a surface layer with a chang...

Zusammenfassung:Earlier studies of the structure and phase composition of wire from corrosion-resistant steels AISI 304, AISI 316, 12Kh18N10T, 08Kh20N9G7T and alloy Kh20N80 have shown that the mechanical corrosion damage of the surface of finished wire is connected with the formation of a surface layer with a changed structure due to heat treatment in pusher furnaces. At the same time, cases of modification of the wire surface after heat treatment in bell furnaces have been reported. In the present paper we describe the results of a study of the structure and phase composition of the surface layer formed in quenching of wire from steel AISI 304 in bell furnaces with a protective atmosphere.
