Preparation and characterization of the strontium stannates SrSnO3 and Sr2SnO4

The strontium stannates SrSnO3 and Sr2SnO4 can besynthesized by the wet chemical peroxide route. The first step of thepreparation is the precipitation of stoichiometric peroxo precursorswhich can be transformed into the corresponding stannates by thermaldegradation. The resulting very fine, single-phase strontium stannate powders have extremely small impurity contents. They show avery fast densification behaviour during sintering at temperaturesabove 1200°C. A phase Sr3Sn2O7 could not beprepared using the peroxide route.
