Zusammenfassung:Mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and lysosomes are involved in different pathways that can regulate pre-synaptic function. In particular, they could modulate ATP availability in response to rapid changes, could control synaptic protein levels and adjust Ca2+ signalling, which could all impact on neuronal activity. Organelles functions in these processes need to be considered alone when describing the impact of pre-synaptic organelles on neurotransmission. However, the interplay among organelles, which occurs either via signalling pathways or through physical membranous contacts, has to be considered. In this brief review, the physiological role of organelles localized at the pre-synapse in neuronal function is discussed.
