Growth of pure and RE exp 3+ -doped Y sub 2 O sub 3 single crystals by LHPG technique

High-quality and crack-free Y sub 2 O sub 3 single crystals containing low concentrations of Tm exp 3+ , Tb exp 3+ and Yb exp 3+ were obtained. The crystals were grown in the form of monocrystalline fibers by using a floating zone method with laser heating (laser-heated pedestal growth).
