Zusammenfassung:This work tested the long-term physical properties of barium alginate capsules, searching for conditions to improve stability by a multilayer coating with polyethylenimine and polyacrylic acid. Mechanical stability and diameters were determined in barium alginate capsules and compared with multilayer capsules. Multilayer coating resulted in smaller capsules than barium complexing alone; and the difference was more pronounced when CaCl\+v\2\-v\ was used instead of NaCl during coating. Multilayer coating improved mechanical stability, even after long-term exposure to sodium citrate. (Original abstract - amended)
