Zusammenfassung:A model composite system is used to demonstrate that bone-shaped short-fiber composites yield both high strength and toughness and thereby obviate reliance on fiber/matrix interface properties as the limiting factor in strength and toughness improvement for short-fiber composites. The presults presented suggest that an optimized bone morphology, in conjunction with a weak interface, yields higher strength and Young's modulus. (AIAA)
