Zusammenfassung:Mössbauer measurements were carried out on mechanically alloyed 10Fe + 2Fe 3N compounds. Hyperfine fields of various local environments for compounds ground in Ar and N 2 atmospheres are presented. The initial increase of the average hyperfine magnetic field is reported. Gaseous nitrogen accelerates the process of mechanical alloying. There is no indication of Fe 16N 2 formation.
