Zusammenfassung:The magnetic anisotropy of rare-earth iron intermetallic compounds containing cobalt and carbon, Sm sub 2 (Fe sub 1-x Co sub x ) sub 17 C sub y (0 < =x < =0.5 and 0 < =y < =0.5), was investigated. They crystallized in rhombohedral symmetry of Th sub 2 Zn sub 17 -type structure, and the easy magnetization direction (EMD) changed from the basal plane to the c-axis of the Th sub 2 Zn sub 17 -type structure with increase of the contents of Co and carbon, so that the complete uniaxis anisotropy was realized on Sm sub 2 (Fe sub 0.7 Co sub 0.3 ) sub 17 C sub 0.3 . The Curie temperature is elevated by substitution of Co for Fe and interstitial addition of carbon, and the effect of Co was marked compared with that of carbon.
