Zusammenfassung:For Ti-48Al-2Cr-Nb exposed from 1000-9000 h at 704 deg C in air, a complex, mixed alumina/titania scale, rather than a protective alumina scale, is formed. After 9000 h, this scale was approx15 mu m thick. A continuous Ti-rich nitride layer was present at the alloy-scale interface. The alloy ahead of the nitride layer was depleted in Ti and enriched in Al. This nitride formation, and associated Al enrichment, appears to be related to a minimum level of Nb in the alloy.
