Design and build : lessons from the UK Channel Tunnel terminal

The main contractor, Transmanche Link, had to cope with constantly changing operational, cost and quality requirements and yet deliver an acceptable standard of design. The problem was particularly acute at the environmentally sensitive UK terminal site. Some of the design and management issues raised by the scale, process and pace of the project are recorded. In conclusion a series of recommendations for major design and build projects of the future are given. (Original abstract-amended)
