Zusammenfassung:The sintering of aluminium titanate-mullite using a constant heating rate was studied in samples prepared from a mechanical mixture of TiO2 and bauxite. The activation energy of the initial stage of sintering, the sintering mechanisms and formation temperatures for mullite and Al2TiO5 were determined. The results showed that the activation energy changed from 243 to 282 kJ/mol as the constant heating rate increased from 2 to 15 C/min. Viscous flow is probably the main sintering mechanism. The densification rate curves showed that the formation temperatures of mullite and Al2TiO5 phases were 970 C and 1280 C, respectively. 7 refs.
