Observations of F layer patches and their convection over the north magnetic pole

Studies of F layer patches have been conducted at our Polar Observatory (89 ° CGL) at Eureka, Canada during the past three winters. Their optical signatures are typically 100 – 300 R enhancements in 630 nm emission and lesser 558 nm enhancements. They are frequently seen drifting across the pole in...

Zusammenfassung:Studies of F layer patches have been conducted at our Polar Observatory (89 ° CGL) at Eureka, Canada during the past three winters. Their optical signatures are typically 100 – 300 R enhancements in 630 nm emission and lesser 558 nm enhancements. They are frequently seen drifting across the pole in an antisunward direction, often in sequences and sometimes recurring through much of a 24-hr period. A review of the instrumentation and a summary of the results to date will be presented.
