Corrosion cracking susceptibility in Al-Li-Cu alloys 2090 and 2096 as a function of isothermal aging time

Zusammenfassung:Two windows, i.e., severely underaged and overaged temper conditions, of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility are observed as a function of aging time for AA2096 and AA2090. The SCC path for both alloys in both windows of susceptibility was intergranular/intersubgranular in nature with extensive secondary cracking evident. Comparison of these trends to known or likely grain boundary microchemistry, microstructure, and microprecipitation developed during aging suggests two separate controlling metallurgical culprits for SCC susceptibility.
