Zusammenfassung:We have studied magnetic (optical) second harmonic generation (MSHG) from a clean and oxidized Ni(1 1 0) surface. The results show very strong changes of the nonlinear magneto-optical response upon oxidation of only 1% of a clean surface. Surface superstructures due to oxidation of the surface can be identified as extrema in the second harmonic-signal.
