A Study on the Attenuation Characteristics of Peak Responses in the Near-Fault Region Using Applied Element Method

Zusammenfassung:A new application of the applied element method (AEM) is proposed. Numerical modelling of dynamic fault rupture propagation is done using a 2-D AEM. It is found from the results that the peak ground acceleration very near the fault trace becomes relatively smaller and increases to a peak value and then attenuates towards the hanging wall side. This information gives insights into the actual phenomenon.
