β→α″ and β→ω transformations in Ti-Os alloys

Zusammenfassung: | The Ti-Os system is, for the first time, investigated in this article. The phase diagram of this system is shown. The alloys containing 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 at.% osmium were melted from iodide titanium (99.99%) and pure osmium (99.98%) in a tungsten-arc furnace under a helium atmosphere. In addition, the alloys containing 3, 4, and 5 at.% osmium were aged at 400 deg C for different times. The structure of the alloys was examined by x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, light microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Vickers hardness testing was carried out with an indentation load of 5 kg. Five measurements were taken for each sample and then an average value was taken. The initial impurity content of the iodide titanium was 0.006 wt.% Fe, 0.002 wt.% C, and 0.001 Cr. An analysis of the impurity content of the prepared alloys was not made. |
