Influence of the fiber surface treatment and hot–wet environment on the mechanical behavior of carbon/epoxy composites

Four commercial carbon fibers are compared for their ability to form a strong carbon/epoxy interface, both in the dry condition and after exposure to a hot/wet environment. This is done through use of single-fiber-fragmentation-testing, acoustic emission and light optical microscopy. The results ind...

Zusammenfassung:Four commercial carbon fibers are compared for their ability to form a strong carbon/epoxy interface, both in the dry condition and after exposure to a hot/wet environment. This is done through use of single-fiber-fragmentation-testing, acoustic emission and light optical microscopy. The results indicate large differences between the commercial fibers.
