Zusammenfassung:	The concepts of sustainability and pollution prevention are discussed and their roles in environmental science and engineering education are examined. Present trends in environmental engineering education are outlined and it is suggested that environmental engineering education should be re-oriented to focus on pollution prevention technologies as a means of achieving sustainability. Two case studies are presented describing the integration of sustainability in environmental engineering education at the Nebraska-Lincoln University in the U.S.A. and at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in Spain.
