STRENGTHENING STEEL BOX GIRDER BRIDGES BY CONTROLLING THE EFFECTS OF SHEAR LAG
The effects of shear lag in box girders cause amplification of edge stresses. A method of strengthening an existing girder is proposed which will increase the buckling resistance while also controlling the shear lag effect. This method can also be used in designing new box girders. The desired buckl...

Zusammenfassung: | The effects of shear lag in box girders cause amplification of edge stresses. A method of strengthening an existing girder is proposed which will increase the buckling resistance while also controlling the shear lag effect. This method can also be used in designing new box girders. The desired buckling resistance of the flange is achieved by an increase in flange thickness, rather than by longitudinal stiffeners.
