Magnetically controlled shape memory effect in Ni2MnGa intermetallics
When magnetically-controlled shape memory (MSM) materials are subjected to an external magnetic field, twins of a favorable orientation relative to the magnetic field direction grow at the expense of other twins. Zusammenfassung: | When magnetically-controlled shape memory (MSM) materials are subjected to an external magnetic field, twins of a favorable orientation relative to the magnetic field direction grow at the expense of other twins. It is presently shown that the twin structure of martensite in the MSM composition Ni2MnGa can be reoriented magnetically; the resulting magnetically-driven strain is believed to be the largest such in non-REE-based alloys.
