Formation of spherical corundum crystals in explosive combustion of aluminum hydroxide-containing mixtures

Spherical corundum single crystals were produced by explosive combustion of a mixture of hexogen and 20 wt% Al(OH)3 in a small explosive calorimeter. The spherical crystals measured 80 to 350 μm across. X-ray diffraction analysis data are given.
