Zusammenfassung:Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) dysregulation has been implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases, but its role in regulating intestinal mucosa inflammation is still unclear. The aim of this study was to assess PD-L1 expression in the intestinal mucosa of patients with refractory inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared to controls. We evaluated PD-L1 expression by immunohistochemistry in colectomy specimens of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn disease (CD) compared to controls. PD-L1 expression was assessed in colonic epithelium and inflammatory cells, along with the location of the inflammatory cells expressing PD-L1. All cases were stained with CD3, CD4, CD8, FOXP3, CD20, CD68, and CD90 immunostains to determine the types of cells expressing PD-L1.
