(1100 degrees C) coarsening of Y sub 2 BaCuO sub 5 (211) and subsequent YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 sub - delta (123) growth kinetics using melt-quenched and 123 precursor powders are examined via quenching. Fine-scale excess Y addition by sol-gel coating is employed up to 20 mol%. The addition of Y is seen to shift the 211 weight fraction to higher levels for the melt-quenched powders. Refinement of the 211 particle size is seen in the presence of Pt but not with Y addition. 39 refs.
