Zusammenfassung:This work studies the end-loaded-split (ELS) test for measuring the stable crack growth resistance of composites under mode II loading. Irwin's concept of effective crack length is used to take into account the contribution of crack-tip damage. A method is presented for determining the effective crack length in the range of large deflections. The effect of large deflection on fracture stability is also studied. The test procedure has been used to characterize the mode II fracture behaviour of carbon/PEEK composite.
