The relationship between the microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of zirconium titanate ceramics

ZrTiO4 ceramics were prepared by the mixed oxide route using small additions of ZnO, Y2O3 or CuO. Specimens were sintered mainly at 1400 C and cooled at various rates: water-quench, air-quench, 300 C/h, 120 C/h, 6 C/h and 1 C/h. The calcined powders and sintered specimens were characterised using XR...

Zusammenfassung:ZrTiO4 ceramics were prepared by the mixed oxide route using small additions of ZnO, Y2O3 or CuO. Specimens were sintered mainly at 1400 C and cooled at various rates: water-quench, air-quench, 300 C/h, 120 C/h, 6 C/h and 1 C/h. The calcined powders and sintered specimens were characterised using XRD and the sintered specimens were examined using SEM, EDS and TEM. In addition, high frequency dielectric measurements were performed. The effect of factors e.g. ordering, impurities, oxygen vacancies and grain boundary phases are discussed. 41 refs.
