The Present Status and a Trend of Can Manufacturing

A review on the recent trend in the can manufacturing technology covers the production statistics (total 32 billion cans in 1991), the production methods such as those for DI cans and three piece cans and the lid manufacturing method. According to statistics, metallic cans for beverages constitute > 90% of total cans, and cans for beer show continuing growth. As a new innovational technology, the manufacturing technology for reduced thickness-deep drawn can is introduced. Aluminum and Al base alloys, high strength steels, and iron cans are discussed.
