Zusammenfassung:Manual metal arc (MMA) welds were prepared in a 0.03 wt.% carbon steel to determine the toughness of the resultant microstructures containing acicular ferrite and bainite. Three microstructures were produced in the weld metal and tested as Charpy impact samples: acicular ferrite, acicular ferrite + bainite and bainite. Results indicate that at the test temperature of --70 deg C full bainitic structures have inferior toughness compared to those which contain acicular ferrite.
