Influence of surface layer residual stresses on wear resistance of cylinder liners

See adjacent abstract. A study has been made on effect of stressed state on wear resistance of sockets for cylinders of cast iron with laminated graphite (3.35% carbon, 2.2% silicon, 0.7% manganese; 0.2% phosphorus; 0.27% copper; 0.5% chromium; 0.5% nickel up to 0.1% titanium). Zusammenfassung:See adjacent abstract. Sockets treatment has been conducted according to the following regimes: experimental regime: heating by power currents to 200-300 deg C, quenching with HFC heating to 850 deg C and dosed unilateral internal cooling providing self- tempering; series regime: quenching with HFC heating to 850 deg , and bilateral sprayer-shower cooling. It has been shown that in quenched layer of the sockets treated according to series regime, complex- stressed state is formed. Improvement of methods of sockets cooling in HFC heating permits to create compressing stresses in surface layer that significantly slows down the intensity of wear resistance.
