Zusammenfassung: | Fusion welding of Ti-silicon carbide fiber (SiC sub f ) reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs) may lead to matrix/fiber reaction, thus degrading the material properties. Solid phase joints at lower temperatures in principle allow bonding without significant interfacial reaction. Solid states joining of Ti/SiC sub f MMC was studied, using resistance heating: currents were low and applied over long times, to avoid fusion. Process parameters and material surface condition were varied, and lap tensile shear tests were carried out, with metallographic and fractographic examination. |
