Technology foresight: what does it mean for structures and buildings research?

The activities and procedures utilized by the Research and Development Panel are reviewed in the context of structural materials. These are compared with those developed using the innovative but systematic approach promoted by the Government. The Technology Foresight Programme is outlined and it is concluded that it is well suited to input from all sectors of the profession and should be adopted by the R and D Panel.
