Radiological aspects of titanium alloys as structural materials for a fusion reactor

Zusammenfassung:The radiological properties of the three titanium alloys Ti6Al4V, Ti5Al2.4Sn and Ti5Zr2.4Sn were investigated by calculating their activation with the computer programs FISPACT and PCROSS. The results show that the advantage of the low long-term activation of titanium is negated by the activation of main alloying elements like aluminum or tin. In addition, the problem of hydrogen embrittlement will be enhanced by the formation of hydrogen through neutron-induced nuclear reactions. The results are discussed.
