Zusammenfassung:Employing a set of experiments devoted to examining the effect of surface finish (riblets) on convective heat transfer as an example, this technical note seeks to explore the notion that precision uncertainties in experiments can be reduced by repeated trials and averaging. This scheme for bias error reduction can give considerable advantage when parametric effects are investigated experimentally. When the results of an experiment are presented as a ratio with the baseline results, a large reduction in the overall uncertainty can be achieved when all the bias limits in the variables of the experimental result are fully correlated with those of the baseline case. 4 refs.
