Zusammenfassung: | The Galileo Mission's plasma instrumentation package encompasses a nested set of four spherical-plate electrostatic analyzers and three miniature magnetic mass spectrometers which identify the composition of the positive ion plasmas; the spectrometers' energy range is species-dependent. Two instrument microprocessors allow in-flight implementation of operational modes by ground command that are tailored for such specific regimes as the magnetosheath and the plasma sheet of the environs of Jupiter. Observational objectives include field-aligned currents, 3D ion bulk flows, Galilean satellite pickup ions, and the spatial distributions of plasmas. |
