Zusammenfassung:Failure mechanisms for strain-softening solids under dynamic loading conditions are investigated. Considering the axisymmetric deformations of a round bar under tensile impact, the load instability and strain localization type of failures are examined in a one-dimensional context. The numerical results are based on a finite element analysis for a perfect specimen for which instability is triggered via the inhomogeneity of deformations due to dynamic loading conditions. The events associated with failure are discussed from the examination of the entire deformation history of the specimen.
