Isothermal Sections of the Pd--Pt--Nb and Pd--Pt--Ta Systems at 1000 deg C

Isothermal sections of the Pd--Pt--Nb and Pt--Pt--Ta systems at 1000 deg C were plotted by combination of the diffusion pair method and classical physicochemical analysis of equilibrated alloys. The first method permits one to obtain the general picture of the phase relations rather quickly and to establish the width of the homogeneity ranges, but does not allow one to determine the positions of three-phase triangles. The second method may be used to do the latter and to corroborate the realization of the local equilibrium conditions upon which the first method is based. Thus, the two methods are complementary and permit one to achieve more reliable results.
